Quantifying Skin Maturation in Preterm Infants using Near-infrared Spectroscopy

My first class at Vanderbilt was Introduction to Biomedical Engineering. Over the brief module course, my team and I dove into the biomedical challenges faced in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. We learned that tapes and other adhesives used to secure medical equipment to neonates often risks damaging their skin. We pitched, in abstract, a novel NIRS device to quantify the fragility of a neonate’s skin.
